SAE International’s® A World in Motion® STEM Education Program Joins AmeriCorps Through ServeWyoming

ServeWyoming Funding to Strengthen Communities Through Support of STEM Initiatives in Albany, Laramie, and Natrona Counties

Laramie, WY (Oct. 25, 2023)SAE International® is excited to announce that its award-winning A World In Motion® (AWIM) PreK–12 Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM) education program will begin implementation as an AmeriCorps program in the state of Wyoming. This new AmeriCorps program will focus on serving students, teachers, families, and communities to increase access to life-changing, hands-on STEM learning experiences.

“We appreciate the support of ServeWyoming and AmeriCorps to help us grow STEM education in this state," said Jamie Ferguson, executive director of SAE Foundation & STEM Learning. “We are excited to expand the reach and impact of the AWIM program to help ignite STEM potential and prepare students for success in future education, careers and life.”

With long-term plans to expand state-wide, the funding for year one focuses on supporting AWIM in three WY counties: Albany, Laramie, and Natrona.  Through school and community-based organization site partners in each county, AmeriCorps members will support capacity building and outreach through:

  1. Educator outreach introducing the AWIM program

  2. Recruiting and coordinating local community volunteers

  3. Training and support of local educators, community partners, and volunteers

  4. Supporting AWIM program implementation and competitions, such as JetToy, Straw Rockets, Fuel Cell and Electric Powered Vehicles

Additionally, members will conduct outreach that helps communities and families learn about PreK-12 resources including SAE STEM@Home™, the 2021 EdTech Awards winner for “Best Parent/Student Solution” and a 2021 EdTech finalist for “Best STEM Solution”.

After completing an AmeriCorps term of service and enrolling in the National Service Trust, members are eligible to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. This award can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses.

“AmeriCorps members have the opportunity to develop valuable resume-building experience and hone skills such as relationship-building, mentoring, and project management as they cultivate a spirit of service,” said Shelly McAlpin, executive director, ServeWyoming. “ServeWyoming is proud to support the SAE AWIM program connecting people to purpose and strengthening communities.”

The program and funding was announced at the Governor’s Awards in Cheyenne, Wy. on October 17, 2023.
