SAE’s J1939 Truck and Bus Control and Communications Network Committee and its various task forces recently met in-person at Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) headquarters in Portland, OR. This was only the second face-to-face meeting of the committee since February 2020 due to COVID, with 20 people attending and more than 20 additional members calling-in to the sessions.
The J1939 committee develops documents related to communication networks for the exchange of control and diagnostic information among electronic components on, or connected to on and off- highway trucks, buses, construction equipment, and agricultural vehicles. It has published 28 documents since its inception and currently has 20 documents in-progress.
Over the three-day series of meetings in Portland, the participants addressed various topics, including functional safety, low-speed communications, hybrid & electric vehicle communication, and cybersecurity. The committee is part of the SAE Truck and Bus Electrical/Electronic Steering Committee.
Your future participation on the J1939 committee as it seeks to produce and improve vehicle communication standards is welcome.
