The World-Wide Mobility Industry Converged at WCX in Detroit

For three days this April 16 – 18, the global mobility community convened for an intense and productive series of engineering presentations, interactive demonstrations, executive panels, and networking opportunities. The WCX 2024 event drew a crowd of almost 6,000 professionals, eager for the latest research, solutions, advice, and direction about the future of the transportation sector.

This year’s meeting included over 200 technical sessions for engineering professionals, 8 leadership summit panels, 40 learning lab presentations, 833 technical paper releases, and countless opportunities to meet and discuss mobility possibilities, challenges, and future prospects.

The keynote address was delivered by Doug Field, Chief EV, Digital and Design Officer at Ford. Hydrogen fuel cell applications in medium and heavy-duty trucking was also discussed by Mark Dickens, Chief Engineer of Future Cell Products at GM and Jacob Lozier, GM Program Engineering Manager. Avinash Balachandran, Senior Director of Human Interactive Driving at the Toyota Research Institute talked about Artificial Intelligence (AI). And Sripriya Raghunathan, VP of Engineering at Qualcomm delivered a keynote on generative AI and software-defined vehicles.

On the exhibit floor, personnel from over 100 industry manufacturers, suppliers and related organizations met with attendees to discuss the solutions they offer the industry. Included among the exhibitors were focused floor pavilions on battery technology, software-defined vehicles, and early-stage startup companies.

As Christian Thiele, Ground Vehicle Standards Director at SAE International remarked, “WCX 2024 brought together key mobility professionals from around the world to discuss, face-to-face, the present and future of mobility technology and the transportation ecosystem.”
