The development of technical standards is a highly collaborative effort. Thousands of people volunteer their expertise and time on SAE’s 750+ councils, committees, and task groups to give rise to intelligent documents that guide professionals in critical work promoting safety, economy, and performance across the ground vehicle and aerospace industries.
Standards development at SAE is supported by StandardsWorks, a communications, workflow, and collaboration platform that supports the work of almost 15,000 professionals globally as they create new, and update existing documents. SAE’s pursuit of user feedback from individual StandardsWorks users, surveys, and in- person/virtual committee meetings has resulted in enhancements that make the platform more useful. Recently, SAE announced several important updates to StandardsWorks.
- In-application notifications (alert bell): gives notifications inside StandardsWorks without having to check email
- Bulk/batch comment upload: provides the ability to work on unlimited comments and upload them with a few steps instead of one at a time
- Published document search and updates to the published document page: allows search for any document across StandardsWorks and a link to the document or committee where it was created; also offers new icons and sort options to help differentiate published documents from links to WIP documents
- Project request form optimizations: provides new fields and adjustments for document sponsors in creating new documents or revisions to existing documents
- Survey tool enhancements: provides the ability to download results, private surveys, or add additional committees to surveys, and allows support for attachments
- General stability improvements and optimizations to balloting workflows
SAE is committed to keeping the StandardsWorks platform an up-to-date and vital hub for all standards committee participants. There are many more exciting initiatives that are also being worked on involving new capability for committee managers to more easily manage committees, users, and meetings.
New functionality is also being designed and tested to help multiple authors collaboratively write documents inside of StandardsWorks, and also project manage these documents. The progress of these initiatives will be showcased in more detail in future updates.
