Solution of an Engine Inlet Compatibility Problem During C-17 Low Cost N/EAT Nacelle Thrust Reverser Development 2000-01-5579
The C-17 transport aircraft is established in military service with unique capabilities to ground maneuver using thrust reversers. Recently, the C-17 has undergone fan thrust reverser re-design to reduce cost. The new Nacelle/Engine Affordability Team (N/EAT) nacelles are now fully qualified but had, during the flight test program, revealed an engine inlet compatibility problem. Flight tests, engineering analyses and practical applications that led to a successful N/EAT fan reverser cascade design modification are discussed. Fabrication methods that enabled timely implementation of the solution and flight test results showing successful resolution of the problem are presented.
