How to Minimise the Clean-Up System of a Fuel Processor by Using a Power Electronic 2002-01-1874

With this work we present an alternative technique, which enables us to increase the CO-tolerance of a PEFC, by electrooxidising CO to CO2 within the fuel cell. Compared to currently used clean-up systems the so called pulse technique is leading to the following benefits for the fuel processing system: 1.) The complexness is reduced by minimising or even avoiding subsystems like the reactor for preferential oxidation. 2.) In comparison to airbleed the technique enables us to react rapidly and dynamically when the CO-concentration in the system changes.
