New Low Temperature Selective Oxidation Catalyst that Reacts Only with CO 2002-01-1875

The catalyst selectively oxidizes carbon monoxide (CO) to carbon dioxide (CO2) in simulated reformer streams. Unlike most other selective oxidation catalysts on the market, this novel catalyst does not react with or reduce the hydrogen (H2) gas concentration. The catalyst has been applied to both silica and alumina substrates of various forms including granules, beads, pellets, and monoliths. This report presents the performance of a new catalyst in terms of its ability to catalyze 2,000 to 10,000 ppm CO in both nitrogen and simulated reformate at room temperature. The design and operation of the CO removal system with dual catalyst beds and dual CO monitoring chambers are presented. A laboratory demonstration of this unique CO removal system is also presented.
