A Method for Selecting Optimal Correction-Mass Sets for Driveline Balancing Processes 2003-01-1483
Balance processes rely on accuracy of measurement and accuracy of correction to reduce the imbalance of a rotating system. Once the imbalance vector has been calculated, the balance process must provide a suitable correction vector with the masses and locations available. The more discrepancy between the desired correction vector and the actual correction vector, the worse the final balance of the system will tend to be.
A method is presented for calculating the optimum balance masses for any symmetrical system configuration. This will, therefore, result in the best possible (lowest) residual imbalance in the corrected systems by minimising the correction error.
