This work serves as a description of material and dimensional characteristics that should be utilized by design and maintenance engineers. Information is given regarding polymeric materials that are commonly used in the manufacture of sealing devices. For dimensional properties, equations and discussion are given to assist in determining the correct size and fit for seals. Practical information regarding failure analysis is presented as well.
