Progress in Automotive Position Sensors and Introduction of the Hella Inductive Position Sensor 2004-01-1115

Modern automobiles have several position sensors as a fundamental part of many system functions. Beside applications in areas like comfort systems (e. g. electronic seat, window or sunroof adjustments) position sensors in the domain of drivetrain and chassis get more importance.
This report gives examples for position sensor solutions with enhanced requirements. The increasing requirements include - (rotating and linear measurement), robust sensor design, adaptable parameters, redundancy, insensitivity to geometric tolerances, temperature and low cost. A modern contactless sensor principle is introduced, which fulfills the requirements for the widest range of vehicle applications. Furthermore the paper addresses prospects of future position sensors.
