Spindle Load Application for NVH CAE Models by Using Principal Vector Approach 2005-01-1505

A procedure has been developed at Ford to accommodate experimental test data for tires in CAE vehicle model. The purpose of this procedure is to provide an automated, easy-to use tool for general NVH engineers while improving CAE model quality by bypassing inadequate tire patch models. The inverse frequency response function (IFRF) experiment has been partially adapted to apply the spindle acceleration data to spindle points in the CAE model to obtain spindle forces. An error-check utility at this point enables user to detect and remove channels that may deteriorate the correlations. The spindle forces are converted into the form of principal vector to be applied as a force function for the CAE model. This approach enables users to obtain all necessary post processing data by providing deterministic inputs. The results from this procedure provide reliable output for road NVH performance in the frequency range of 40 to 250 Hz.
