The use of 0D/1D simulation to model complex engine systems is developing, since both quick and accurate simulators are needed, in particular for engine control design applications. In the case of Diesel engines, the engine models must be able to deal with new combustion modes like Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI), while remaining efficient for conventional operating conditions.

The increasing complexity and requirements lead to the introduction of multiple new parameters of the 0D/1D models : it appears very interesting to develop automatic calibration of these parameters, in order to save development time and also to enhance the quality of use of the models.

We present a phenomenological dual mode (HCCI and conventional) Diesel combustion model. We then describe the automatic calibration tool we developed to enhance our simulation efficiency. And finally these tools are applied to a 4-cylinder turbocharged Diesel engine application case, assessing our simulated engine capacity for steady state points and for transient operating conditions.
