Numerical Simulations for Testing of Commercial Vehicle as Per ECE-R29 Regulations 2007-26-045

Safety of driver and front seat passenger is a prime consideration for design of truck cabin. The cab must be designed in such a way that in event of crash, sufficient survival space is guaranteed for the occupants. Numerical simulations using non linear explicit code helps in predicting deformation of driver cabin and load of individual components within the elastic and plastic range of the material. These simulation methods helped in reducing the number of intermediate physical test during the design process. In this paper, application of this numerical simulation method with example of one of the cabin is presented and compared to the results from the physical test carried out as per ECE R-29 regulation.
