Cooling Pump Development using Plastic Material 2008-36-0153

An engine coolant system, analogous to the human circulatory system, has as its heart the cooling pump. The pump provides the necessary flow to move coolant in the required amounts through the system to receive heat from the engine and to dissipate it in other devices. The continuous evolution of plastic materials has allowed the development of lighter engine components; in the case of cooling pumps, plastic has replaced parts like impeller, bearing housing and pulley. This paper will analyze the development of a plastic cooling pump for engines.
