In recent years, 3D displaying has gained popularity in areas including movies, football live show, video games, online videos, mobile phones, 3D TV channel and etc. The related 3D contents grow exponentially.
The glasses free 3D displaying technology allows its in-vehicle implementation feasible. Comparing with conventional 2D displays, this additional third dimension provides driver and passenger a brand new Human Vehicle Interface experience by recovering the depth perception in the real world.
This paper investigates several potential vehicular applications of 3D visual technology that enhances displaying with spatial elements: such as vehicle information display, rear vision system, side vision system, navigation and in-vehicle entertainment.
This paper also studies interface, hardware and software requirements for 3D vehicle applications, and designs a common platform for further applications.
