A Study on Optimization of Brake Cooling System Considering Aerodynamics 2018-01-1875
As powertrain performance improves, brake load is gradually increasing. But it is not easy to increase brake size due to cost and weight despite judder and fade problem issues in filed.
Cooling-duct is being considered for brake cooling instead of increasing brake size. However, this causes loss of aerodynamic performance which increases drag coefficient.
This paper will cover the optimization of brake cooling system including cooling-duct, deflector and dust cover to minimize aerodynamic loss and maximizing brake cooling.
The optimal design had been found via thermal and aerodynamic analyses, and correlation had been confirmed via vehicle assessment.
This results will provide useful guidelines for designing brake cooling system so that robust against judder and fade problem without increasing brake size.
