Study on Influence Analysis of Rotor’s Slot and Optimization of Slot Design 2018-01-1883
This paper is a study on influence analysis of rotor’s slot and optimization of slot design. Initial slot design in HKMC shows good fade performance and metal pick up problem but it has a lot of noise and brake pad wear issues. Because of this problem, this study begins.
The factors of the slot design is so many but this paper simplify slot design factors (focused on 4 factors) : slot width, slot shape, number of slots, slot angle. According to these factors, air plane noise, friction material wear, brake fade performance and monitoring metal pick up were tested based on orthogonal array with 3-levels (three designs for each factor). Test result is that regardless of slot shape, Fade performance was enhanced and metal pick up didn’t shows but noise/wear was getting worse. So to optimize this tradeoff situation, set the design focus on noise and wear. In conclusion, 1) smaller slot width 2) less number of slot 3) smooth slot shape 4) less angle of slot is proper to good noise and wear. Compare with initial slot design, the final design shows no noise and less wear of brake pad.
In this study, we can find out below
1) Set the base of slot rotor development procedure.
2) Identify slot design factor influence to noise and wear
3) Improve brake fade performance
4) Reduction of cost/weight due to decrease rotor size.
Additionally, review slot design for mass production, finding improvement and setting slot design guide remains as future plan.
