Experimental analysis on simultaneous performance improvement and emission reduction in a MENO fuelled diesel engine with oxygenative and antioxidant additives G.Balaji, M.Cheralathan Department of Mechanical Engineering, SRM University, Kattankulathur - 603203, India gbalajimech79@gmail.com, 9443784657 ABSTRACT Experimental investigation on simultaneous performance improvement and emission reduction of MENO (Neem biodiesel) as test fuel in diesel engine with oxygenative (Diethyl ether) and antioxidant (p-Phenylenediamine) additives is reported in this paper. The oxygenative additive is blended in various quantities (5, 10, 15 and 20% by vol) with MENO and found MENO+DEE10 as optimum blend in terms of performance and emissions except NO emissions. The antioxidant additive is further added in 100 to 400 ppm level to MENO+DEE10 blend to suppress the NO emissions. Performance, combustion and emission analysis were done in a single cylinder, four stroke, 3.5 kW diesel engine. Investigation results showed that the combined effect of oxygenative and antioxidant additive increases the performance and reduces the emissions simultaneously with MENO blend.
