Aerodynamic Development of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1 2019-01-0665
This paper presents an overview of the aerodynamic development of the 2019 Chevrolet Corvette C7 ZR1. Extensive wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics simulations were completed to engineer the ZR1’s aerodynamics for improved efficiency and track capability over previous Corvette offerings. Motorsports tools, processes, and inspiration were implemented into the aerodynamic development of the ZR1 to overcome many aerodynamic challenges. These challenges included the need for increased vehicle cooling, strict packaging demands, and wider front track and fenders all while enabling aggressive exterior styling. The end result is the highest top speed Corvette ever in the base ZR1 configuration at 212 mph with superior high speed stability. Additionally, the ZR1 with the optional ZTK option package provides the highest downforce of any Corvette generating just under 950 pounds at the configuration’s top speed.
