Experimental Studies on Mechanical Properties of Metal Matrix Composites Reinforced with Natural Fibre Ashes 2019-01-1123
Metal matrix composites have a wide range of applications in the industry of automobile due to its characteristics and properties. Al-based MMC have aluminium as matrix metal that has properties which are well concerned with the automobile industry. Some of these properties are the high strength to weight ratio and lightweight. In the current study, development of aluminium based metal matrix composite (MMC) reinforced with natural fibres ashes was done, and fine ashes of Sugarcane(bagasse), Groundnut shell (GSA), Rice Husk Ash (RHA) and Coconut (Jute) ash were being used, different effects were being evaluated for different percentage of reinforcing materials which were being produced by burning in free atmosphere. Ball milling was used for making fine particle size of different natural fibres ash. Nine samples were made by the stir casting process consisting of Al6063 as base metal and different concentration of reinforcement. Maximum UTS was recorded for the specimen having composition 4% each reinforcement and balance aluminium 84%. Maximum yield Strength was found for the specimen having Coconut (jute) ash 4% and balance aluminium 96%. Maximum elongation % was found for the specimen having 4% RHA. In the current study, an objective is to compare the mechanical properties like maximum UTS, maximum yield strength and maximum elongation of different AL-based MMC reinforced with various natural fibre ashes.
