Effect of slot and chamfer shape of brake pad on mode coupling 2019-01-1419
In the present, one of the most important quality concerns in automotive industry is brake squeal. Brake pad shape is one of the factors affecting to brake vibration and squeal noise. The aim of this research is to study effect of slot and chamfer shape on brake squeal through the Finite Element Analysis (FEA), hammering experiments and standard test. The results can be used to develop geometry of brake pad surface that lead to brake squeal reduction in the design stage. In this study the FE software (ABAQUS) is used to perform the complex eigenvalue analysis (CEA), and then the brake squeal and brake stability can be predicted. The natural frequencies of brake components calculated by FEA are compared with the hammering experiments to ensure the accuracy of the results. The FE results are also verified through the standard test with a dynamometer.
