Structural Optimization of an Vehicle Seat Cushion Bolster Wrinkle Improvement 2019-01-1420
One of the major role of the vehicle seat is provide comfort for passengers, especially the seat bolster provide a comfort form of tightly hugging performance. As a component of the seat, the cushion bolster’s main role is providing support performance to the passenger’s thighs. In order to increase the cushion bolster’s support performance, we can control the support performance by changing the foam pad’s hardness, or changing the height of the bolster. But in the case of that if it provide an excessive support, passengers will feel the uncomfortable hard feeling.
The main purpose of this study is to improving the cushion outer side bolster’s wrinkle which are occurred at the pure leather of the seat covering by passengers boarding to or get off from the vehicle. At that time, passenger’s thigh will touch the bolster and make bolster deformation very excessively. The simplest way to improve the wrinkles occurred at the cushion bolster, is to provide a more stiffening to the inner foam pad to prevent the deformation of the cushion bolster. But as previously mentioned, it will make passenger feel the uncomfortable hard feeling cause of the very hard foam pad.
To solve this technical inconsistency, we separated the existing one cushion bolster to two cushion bolsters, and let these two bolster have different hardness by each other, let inside bolster be more hard, let outside bolster be more soft. To verify the improved design, we using the self-developed wrinkled durability analysis CAE mode, by the verification we finally achieve the approximately 10% of the wrinkle performance as before, at the same comfort condition.
