The Stone Impact Test Study with Impact Mechanics and FEA Analysis 2020-01-1341
Currently in automotive industrial, the emphasis on developing a better heat exchanger for vehicle thermal management is not only on its functional performance but also on its durability levels. One of later requirements is to test the heat exchanger in a simulated stone impact test bench with specified impact energy criteria. With various complex influence factors of this test, there is no existed a simplified, physical based relationship for the heat exchanger design engineer to apply.
In this paper with above considerations, based on impact mechanical principles, impact heads configurations and heat exchangers geometrical details, a simplified impact mechanical model is proposed and developed. With this model, the physical reasoned influence designs factors can presented and analyzed. Furthermore, these related cases will also simulated with impact mechanical finite element analysis (FEA) software, then comparisons and guidelines given in the later section of this article.
