Preliminary Analysis and Reliability Quantification for Magnetorheological Brake System Proposed for Automotive Application 2020-01-5041
Magnetorheological brakes (MRBs) are being explored as a substitute for the conventional hydraulic brakes (CHBs) used for road vehicles, owing to their superior response time. However, with the brake being a safety feature affecting the system, reliability estimation of the MRB system becomes essential. This paper attempts to estimate the reliability of the MRB system quantitatively, based on exponential reliability distribution. The elements of the system have been listed, and a functional block diagram for the system has been presented. Failure rate data used for reliability calculations are sourced from the standard literature. The means for improving the system reliability have been presented, and the estimated reliability is compared with the hydraulic brake system.
