Role of Battery Charging Infrastructure in Electric Vehicle Adoption in India: An Application of Technology Acceptance Model 2021-28-0120
The main purpose of the study is to examine the role of battery charging infrastructure in adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles in India. The objectives of the study are identified by using the technology acceptance model (TAM) which was used as the background of the study to find out that how Indian original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and consumer’s perceive the use of battery charging infrastructure in electric vehicle adoption for the development of whole new ecosystem of auto-mobile industry. The research design is descriptive in nature. A digital survey was done of Industry professionals and consumers in the Delhi & NCR (National Capital Region) of India regarding the technical details and implications of Electric Vehicle adoption. The relevance of the study lies in the fact that manufacturing of batteries has not started yet in India, the technology know-how is being imported for batteries and assembling is done. This practice makes the product costlier. Once the manufacturing of batteries will start taking place within the domestic frontier, the batteries will become cheaper due to economies of scale being reaped out and eventually the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for electric vehicles (EVs) will decline. Moreover, battery management for EVs will be a niche market which will create lot of job opportunities and a tremendous amount of effort will be required from all the participants of the EVs Ecosystem for backward and forward integration of the equipment’s. The paper theoretically extends the knowledge of TAM for Electric Vehicle Adoption in India. Practically, it will help the policy makers to understand the need of the consumer’s, OEMs and the auto-mobile companies.
