Sound Quality Evaluation Metrics on Diesel Engines 2023-01-1128
When people judge the engine NVH, they are not only saying the engine is not loud or too loud, they say the engine is noisy or quiet. The difference between these two comments is the way they quantify the engine NVH, with the noise level or with the sound quality level. Engineers try to use objective tools to quantify the engine sound quality for many years. We would like to propose a novel sound quality matrix for the diesel engine in this paper which includes loudness, sharpness, mid-frequency, and high frequency knocking evaluation parameters. An application case is described to demonstrate the usage of the new sound quality matrix in the engineering field.
