Analysis and Application of Slip Distance Versus Bending Angle Characteristics of Tripod Joint 2023-01-1139

The relationship between the two performance parameters of the tripod joint, joint allowable bending angle and telescopic slip distance, is analyzed in this paper, and it is concluded that the factors affecting the bending angle of the tripod joint are the interference between the rollers and the tracks, the interference between the opening (or bottom) limit of the rollers and the tracks, and the interference between the intermediate shaft and the opening of the tulip housing. Taking two types of tripod joints as studying objects, the relations of slip distance versus bending angle of these two tripod joints are derived. The slip distance versus bending angle of the two tripod joints are drawn using the derived relations, and the rationality of the analysis is validated by bench test. Using hard point coordinates of the drive shaft assembly locations under different working conditions, the slip distance and bending angle of the universal joint under these working conditions can be calculated. Then the slip distance and bending angle relation curve of this type of tripod joint is applicated to judge whether the inner parts of the tripod joint will interfere under these working conditions.
