Reliability and Maintainability are both interrelated, nonseparable aspects of the quality of SYSTEMS. These aspects relate to the way the function is performed and not to any aspects of the physical hardware components. Because the performance depends upon the environments (both physical and human) as well as upon the particular system under consideration, the quality of reliability and of maintainability is significant only in terms of TOTAL SYSTEM.
