This paper reviews the history of light aircraft development and the needs for reliability which were created by this history. Testing techniques are presented which show an application of basic mechanical principles which are applied in a unique manner to assist in the search of a reliable product. The techniques used and the span covered indicate that this portion of the industry has now achieved the stature required for producing a reliable product for customers of widely varied experience levels.
