The problem of ice formation in the carburetor during periods of adverse winter weather has been the subject of much study in the past. Engine changes and modifications, necessitated by the introduction of automotive emission standards, may have influenced the performance of late model cars under icing conditions. The effect of these emission control systems on carburetor icing was investigated using high volume recent model cars in an all-weather chassis dynamometer. The performance of certain types of anti-icing additives was also evaluated.
