A flight crew training program was developed for the L-1011 Trijet utilizing a systems approach similar to that used to develop aircraft. This paper describes a ground school program that features automated instruction taught in a “Cockpit Classroom.” Training material is programmed and presented by an audio visual machine. The emphasis of this approach is “Learning by Doing.”
Training on flight maneuvers will be accomplished in the simulator. A simulator development plan is described to achieve this objective. Flight training is the final examination.
Finally, a training plan is presented that indicates that an overlap of ground school and simulator training can increase efficiency. This training plan shows the estimated division of time between ground school, simulator, and flight training for an average trainee.
