This paper reviews the experience of operating six gas turbine powered haulage trucks at the world's largest open pit mine. It compares the actual findings with the claimed advantages and disadvantages of operating gas turbine engines. Although the turbines have been replaced with diesel engines, the prospect of turbines in haulage trucks still shows promise.
