This paper concerns the energy crisis and the earthmoving industry's relationships to it. The crisis is not one problem but a series of immediate issues involving economics and institutional change coupled with longer term issues of environmental degradation and resource depletion. New technologies for energy supply coupled with better utilization of existing supplies provide the long term answer.
