This paper presents a basic review of the characteristics of the components of wet friction design as they apply to wet wheel brakes. The intent is to provide an understanding of the variables for the design engineer not familiar with the terminology used in the trade. Areas covered include: friction material, mating members, fluids, and groove patterns.
