CBS Technology Center has designed computer-based instrumentation to assist CBS Records in audio quality and process control during cassette manufacture. Large amounts of raw cassette tape manufactured daily undergo quality control to evaluate electrical properties. Many tests are performed to insure that the high-speed duplication systems which record thousands of cassettes a day are properly maintained and aligned. The speed and accuracy of measurements in this environment are very important. Digital techniques are employed in the instrumentation to replace conventional analog filters. Computing and data acqusition facilities of DEC-MINC minicomputer are utilized to provide automation in the data gathering and display process.
