Environmental Altitude Facility for Vehicle Emissions and Performance Testing 840469

The Ford Motor Company Emissions Laboratories Department has completed the construction of an Environmental Altitude Test Chamber. This major testing facility enables engineers to conduct emissions and performance testing on passenger cars and light trucks over extremes of temperature, humidity and barometric pressure. Vehicle tests on a chassis dynamometer can be conducted from 0°F to 120°F, from 5% to 95% Relative Humidity and at barometric pressures equivalent to 10,500 ft. above sea level.
The wide range of environmental conditions imposed many diverse design constraints on the chassis dynamometer, the vehicle exhaust sampling system, and the electrical equipment within the chamber. In addition, strict code and safety requirements were adhered to during the design and construction of this facility.
