SYNOPSISAn engine was equipped with a view to measuring piston - ring-liner friction. Problems involving leakage, vibration and elimination of spurious forces were apprehended and resolved. The effect of some parameters was studied. Substantial gains seem possible which would improve engine fuel consumption.
