The U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration MVSS 208 requirement for passive restraints and dynamic performance on 1987 vehicles confronted virtually every auto manufacturer selling in the U.S. market with the problem of equipping vehicles with passive restraint systems. This presentation touches on some of the problems and concerns associated with providing a passive belt system.
