Safety Belt Development 856020

Beginning with model year 1987, 10 percent of all automobiles sold will be equipped with passive restraints. Occupant protection performance especially in restraining a driver or occupant at the moment of impact is discussed. The 2- and 3-point seatbelts are discussed as well as the automatic seatbelt. Another consideration is the system performance during the postcrash emergency escape. Two considerations affecting acceptance are cost/benefit relationships and that the system will be used in an unaltered configuration.
