Recent fluoroelastomer products have been developed in response to needs for improved processing and resistance to harsher environments. This is particularly important for automotive applications due to expanded use of elastomeric components requiring improved low temperature, compression set and fluid resistance properties (especially SF, SG engine oils and Fuel C/ methanol blends). This paper will give details of three new terpolymers, each designed to provide improved processing and/or improved properties. Two of the new fluoroelastomers are peroxide-curable and offer improved resistance to steam, acid and aggressive engine oils. The third is an improved terpolymer product containing a new bisphenol curative. It is designed for sealing applications such as carburator needle tip and roll-over fuel valves, with easier factory processing and better fluid resistance than the traditional FKM terpolymers.
