This paper describes and references published NHTSA safety research relative to problem definition and countermeasures evaluation for light trucks and vans. The research cited includes accident data analysis, vehicle component developments, air bag and passive belt research, and testing procedure developments in both crashworthiness and crash avoidance areas.
