Status of the Ford Universal Development Computer System 871574
The Universal Development Computer (UDC) combines either a single or a pair of Ford EEC-IV powertrain control microcomputers with a standard microcomputer (Intel 8086/8087). A common memory may be accessed by each of the processors, and thus provides a mechanism for communication between these systems. The recent enhancements which have been made in regard to communication and interfacing to the UDC are described. The EEC-IV related applications which have been addressed with this computer system, including data acquisition and field diagnostics, modification of calibration information, dynamic engine control and distributed powertrain control are discussed.
