As discussed in industry for many years, the concept of formed-in-place gaskets has been considered to be a very attractive one. As may be the case in any technological innovation, many of the attempts to seal flanges have been unsuccessful - largely due to misunderstandings of the technology. New advances have helped make this approach a more forgiving process, ultimately creating a successful seal. These new methods are discussed and compared to the old methods.
