Antilock Brake Systems for the North America Truck Market 901174
In 1987, Freightliner Corporation became the first Heavy Duty Truck OEM to introduce ABS in the U.S. This paper looks at the development that lead to this introduction of ABS on Freightliner vehicles. It also examines the perception of ABS in the U.S. market place, and details the steps that were necessary to ensure success.
This paper also looks at future trends for ABS in the North American truck market. The many developments and enhancements to the basic ABS, which are possible with advances in digital electronics, are reviewed.
