On Line Measurement of Braking Torque Using a Strain Sensor 940333

The present evolution of regulated braking requires the knowledge and control of dynamic parameters of the vehicle during the braking process. The application we propose is the on-line strain measurement of the braking torque of the caliper support on a disk brake (Fig. 2), with in situ signal processing. At the car-manufacturer's request we studied an additional version of the measurement system. On the basis of these considerations we defined a low-cost intelligent sensor. It may also be applied to other fields for strain and stress measurement.
