Sound Level for Truck Cab Interior

1987-02-01
HISTORICAL
J336_198702
This SAE Recommended Practice describes the equipment and procedure for determining the truck cab interior sound level over the upper half of the engine speed range. This practice applies to motor trucks and truck-tractors and does not include construction and industrial machinery.

Tire Chain Clearance-Trucks, Buses (Except Suburban, Intercity, and Transit Buses), and Combinations of Vehicles

1985-08-01
HISTORICAL
J683_198508
The purpose of this SAE Information Report is to set up a guide as to body, frame, and wheel housing clearance to accommodate tire chains, and also the minimum bogie spacing to permit using chains on both axles. These dimensions apply to trucks, buses, and combinations of vehicles 10 001 lb (4535.06 kg) GVW and over, and are based upon recommendations of the Tire and Rim Association and of the National Association of Chain Manufacturers. The diagram shows clearance for chains over the tire ONLY and allowance must be made for spring deflections in determining fender clearance.

Upper Coupler Kingpin--Commercial Trailers and Semitrailers

1985-06-01
HISTORICAL
J700_198506
This SAE Standard applies to upper coupler kingpins for commercial trailers and semitrailers in the unladen condition. See Figure 1. A 90 degree ± 1 degree angle extends (in all directions) from the centerline of the kingpin to the upper coupler plate surface within a 48.26 cm (19 in) radius. The upper coupler plate surface should not bow downward (convex) more than 0.635 cm (1/4 in) within a 48.26 cm (19 in) radius or more than 0.3175 cm (1/8 in) at a radius of 25.4 cm (10 in) from the kingpin. The upper coupler plate surface should not bow upward (concave) more than 0.15875 cm (1/16 in) within a 48.26 cm (19 in) radius. (See Figure 2.) NOTE--For recommended performance, see SAE J133.

Fifth Wheel Kingpin Performance--Commercial Trailers and Semitrailers

1984-12-01
HISTORICAL
J133_198412
The purpose of this SAE Recommended Practice is to establish test procedures and minimum performance standards for kingpins and their supporting structure manufactured to SAE specifications. The dimensions shown in SAE J700 will permit the establishment of standard clearances in the installed condition which, in turn, will permit fifth wheel manufacturers to design their products to establish interchangeability with any kingpin made and installed to the SAE specification.
Standard

Exterior Sound Level for Heavy Trucks and Buses

1984-11-01
HISTORICAL
J366_198411
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the maximum exterior sound level for highway motor trucks, truck tractors, and buses. The test results obtained by this test procedure give an objective measure of the maximum noise level emitted by vehicles under a prescribed condition. A subjective rating of the annoyance caused by vehicles in use may not be directly related to this type of noise level measurement.

Truck Tractor Semitrailer Interchange Coupling Dimensions

1984-08-01
HISTORICAL
J701_198408
The information in this SAE Information Report is the result of studies by Automobile Manufacturers Association, American Trucking Association, and Truck Trailer Manufacturers Association, to achieve interchangeability of equipment which will comply with the legal dimension limitation for the majority of states and yet permit increased loading space within these dimensions. This in no way supersedes other information in the SAE Handbook on this subject. It will, in some cases, require more care in application
Standard

Truck Overall Widths Across Dual Tires

1984-06-01
HISTORICAL
J693_198406
To aid in obtaining overall widths across dual tires when requirements of frame widths, spring widths, chain clearance, and standard rim sizes are considered.
Standard

Motor Truck CA Dimensions

1984-06-01
HISTORICAL
J691_198406
This SAE Recommended Practice sets forth recommended back of cab to rear axle (CA) dimensional data. It applies to 4- and 6-wheel motor trucks but not necessarily to truck-tractors.
Standard

Safety Chain of Full Trailers Or Converter Dollies

1984-06-01
HISTORICAL
J697_198406
This SAE Recommended Practice is intended as a guide for manufacturers and users of trailers, specifically full trailer(s) and/or converter dollies. Its inclusion in state, federal, or any laws or regulations where flexibility of revision is lacking is discouraged. Emergency safety is the basis of this recommendation. This SAE Recommended Practice covers the number, location, and method of attachment of safety chains for full trailers and/or converter dollies.

Exterior Sound Level for Heavy Trucks and Buses

1978-07-01
HISTORICAL
J366B_197807
This SAE Standard establishes the test procedure, environment, and instrumentation for determining the maximum exterior sound level for highway motor trucks, truck tractors, and buses. The test results obtained by this test procedure give an objective measure of the maximum noise level emitted by vehicles under a prescribed condition. A subjective rating of the annoyance caused by vehicles in use may not be directly related to this type of noise level measurement.
