Heavy Duty Lamp Electrical Connector Standard

2015-09-22
CURRENT
J2577_201509
This SAE Standard encompasses connectors that form the electrical interface(s) between the heavy duty lighting device(s) and the truck and truck/trailer wiring harness system. This document provides design and performance requirements based upon the mechanical, electrical and environmental conditions and covers applications of connectors for direct current electrical systems of 24 V nominal or less in heavy-duty signaling and marking devices. This standard excludes forward lighting devices (i.e., fog lamps) but includes the following list of lamps: Stop Lamps Tail Lamps Turn Signal/Hazard Warning Lamps Side Marker Lamps Clearance Lamps Identification Lamps Back Up Lamps Side-Turn Signal Lamps Work Lamps License Lamps Chassis Component Status (ABS) Lamps Identification Lamps

Load Control in Spark-Ignited Engines Possibilities: Early or Late Intake Valve Closure

2015-09-22
2015-36-0477
New devices and control techniques have been adopted to take advantage of variable valve timing properties to improve engine performance or load control. This paper presents a study focused on engine load control strategies associated with early intake valve closing or late intake valve closing. It can be shown that these load control modes can improve the indicated thermal efficiency of the engine as compared with the conventional throttle control. These strategies are sometime called Miller cycle or Atkinson cycle, since the real compression ratio becomes smaller than the expansion ratio. A thermodynamic spark-ignition engine simulation model was employed. The advantage of a simulation model is to conduct parametric studies without the need of complex experimental apparatus. In this way, a deep understanding of the physical phenomena can be achieved and the sole effect of the desired parameter can be shown.

Application - Configurable Messaging

2015-09-22
HISTORICAL
J1939/74_201509
The SAE J1939 documents are intended for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles used on or off road as well as appropriate stationary applications which use vehicle derived components (e.g. generator sets). Vehicles of interest include, but are not limited to, on- and off-highway trucks and their trailers, construction equipment, and agricultural equipment and implements. The purpose of these documents is to provide an open interconnect system for electronic systems. It is the intention of these documents to allow Electronic Control Units to communicate with each other by providing a standard architecture. This particular document, SAE J1939-74, describes the message structure for a set of messages which enable the user to determine and announce to others on the network, the parameter placement within a particular message from the special set of messages defined within this document.

APUs save fuel, serve as driver retention tool

2015-09-22
Without idling the truck’s main engines, an auxiliary power unit can provide heating and cooling to maintain a comfortable temperature in the cab and sleeper, as well as power laptops, gaming machines, and microwaves. Fleets need to provide drivers with the ability to maintain their wanted comfort level on the road while also ensuring resources are being used wisely.

Technique for Suspect/Counterfeit EEE Parts Detection by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS) Test Methods

2015-09-18
WIP
AS6171/13
This document defines the capabilities and limitations of SIMS as they pertain to Suspect/Counterfeit EEE part detection. Additionally, this document outlines requirements associated with the application of SIMS including: operator training, sample preparation, data interpretation, equipment maintenance, and reporting of data. The Test Laboratory shall be accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 to perform the SIMS Test Method as defined in this standard. The Test Laboratory shall indicate in the ISO/IEC 17025 scope statement the specific method being accredited to: Option 1: All AS6171/13 Test Methods, or Option 2: All AS6171/13 Test Methods except 2D Imaging and 3D Imaging, or Option 3: All AS6171/13 Test Methods except Depth Profiling and 3D Imaging. If SAE AS6171/13 is invoked in the contract, the base document, AS6171 General Requirements, shall also apply.
