After wrapping up a wing swap on 173 Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support attack aircraft, the Boeing Company was awarded with another Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) sustainment contract award from the U.S. Air Force to continue re-winging the rest of the A-10 fleet.

This is true for safety-critical aircraft components like landing gear systems. Fokker Landing Gear B.V./GKN Aerospace recently equipped its mechanical laboratory with three creep testing machines to verify its manufacturing process control of zinc-plated bolts for aircraft landing gear systems.

New design wins over upgrades for next US Air Force military jet trainer aircraft

Boeing won a $9.2 billion contract to deliver a new jet trainer for the US Air Force T-X program, replacing the 1960s era Northrop T-38 Talon. An initial $815 million contract covers the development and production of the first five jet trainer aircraft plus seven flight simulators, with delivery slated for 2023. It will be followed by two batches of aircraft in low-rate production and eight full-production aircraft with an initial operating capability (IOC) expected in 2024.

First F-35 crash; pilot safe

On September 28, a day after the first Lockheed Martin F-35B combat strike, an F-35B stationed at USMC Air Station Beaufort crashed a short distance from the base. The aircraft was part of the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing belonging to Marine Fighter Attack Training Squadron 501.

This document defines a Controller Area Network (CAN) interface for current and future commercial aircraft applications. The latest version, Supplement 4, expands the document to include CAN Flexible Data rate also known as CAN FD. CAN FD has the potential to provide 4 Mbps of data transfer. Supplement 4 also introduces four new appendices on the topics of: ARINC 825 Compliance, Configuration of Bit Timing, Management Information Base (MIB) Counters, and CAN Bus Security Considerations.
