Exterior Lighting Recommendations for Urban Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing Aircraft

2022-10-12
WIP
ARP7216
This document covers external lighting for Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (E-VTOL) and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) vehicles. It discusses lights that may be installed both to meet regulatory requirements as well as for customer comfort and aircraft recognition. ...It also discusses the differences between UAM vehicles and other aircraft and how those differences impact the lighting.

Noise Footprint Assessment at a Vertiport for Different Approach and Departure Procedures of a Tilt-Wing Air-Taxi

2023-05-08
2023-01-1103
Community noise at vertiports is one of the most important questions related to upcoming urban air mobility (UAM) operations. While fixed-wing and/or fixed-rotor aircraft can mainly be treated by their changing operational parameters, such as rotor or propeller rpm, tilt-wing or tilt-engine configurations are more difficult to simulate because of their constantly changing noise emission and spatial radiation characteristics.

UAM Icing: Ice Accretion Experiments and CFD Icing Simulations on Rotors for eVTOL Unmanned Aircraft

2023-06-15
2023-01-1391
Urban air mobility (UAM) is a fast-growing industry that utilizes electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technologies to operate in densely populated urban areas with limited space. ...A small 15-inch rotor was selected to illustrate a multirotor UAV drone, while a large 80-inch rotor was chosen to represent a UAM passenger aircraft. The ice accretion experiments were conducted in an icing wind tunnel on the small 15-inch rotor.

electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) Emergency Lighting

2023-09-14
WIP
ARP8620
The purpose of this ARP is to provide criteria that will lead to and support existing regulatory standards of systems for UAM/AMM/eVTOL aircraft such that the emergency systems will facilitate egress under emergency conditions. Consideration is given to existing requirements of the FAA and to the recommendations of aircraft operators and those involved in the manufacture or use of the emergency lighting system. Occupant safety is the primary objective, with appropriate provisions for crew (pilot) system control taken into consideration. Consideration is also given to autonomous aircraft in which passengers are required to egress without the aid or direction of crew. The criteria established herein are intended to produce an emergency lighting system that will comply with the Federal and International Regulations. However, these recommendations are but one means of meeting the objective.
