The efficiency improvement of an electric vehicle powertrain is still a key point of challenge. In recent years, new generations of commercial Wide Band Gap SiC MOSFETs have shown an attractive ability to improve the powertrain efficiency due to faster switching transitions, lower on-state losses utilizing their reverse conduction capability as well as better thermal properties compared to commonly used Si IGBTs. However, overcoming the issues arising from the variations in the battery state of charge (SoC), is critical which can lead to a deterioration of the powertrain energy efficiency and overall drive performance. One possible approach to address this issue is, to adjust the DC-link voltage under all driving conditions improving the powertrain efficiency.
